    The Smoky Mountain Astronomical Society (SMAS) is an Astronomical League-affiliated club for astronomy enthusiasts in the East Tennessee area. SMAS provides monthly meetings at Pellissippi State Technical Community College in Knoxville, star parties at several locations, and a members-only Yahoo group. SMAS also has several loaner scopes for members including a 10-inch dobsonian, a 127mm Burgess Optical achromatic refractor with an LXD55 mount, and our newly refurbished 20-inch Dobsonian we term "Sasquatch."

Public Star Party on the Evening of May 10th in Townsend

SMAS will have telescopes available for the general public in and around the parking areas of the Townsend Visitors Center in Townsend, TN beginning at 8:30 PM, weather permitting. Come visit us for views of the Moon, Mars, Saturn, and other astronomical targets of interest. Never been to a star party? Please read our suggested etiquette here.

Maps to the center can be found at the Townsend Visitors Center website. Also click here for a link to a Google Map. Look for the large white SMAS Star Party sign at the turn to the Visitor Center.

May 9th SMAS Meeting

Make plans to attend the next SMAS meeting at PSTCC! Bill Burgess of Burgess Optical will present and discuss his optical products.
