    The Smoky Mountain Astronomical Society (SMAS) is an Astronomical League-affiliated club for astronomy enthusiasts in the East Tennessee area. SMAS provides monthly meetings at Pellissippi State Technical Community College in Knoxville, star parties at several locations, and a members-only Yahoo group. SMAS also has several loaner scopes for members including a 10-inch dobsonian, a 127mm Burgess Optical achromatic refractor with an LXD55 mount, and our newly refurbished 20-inch Dobsonian we term "Sasquatch."

Cades Cove Star Party - another great success!
SMAS partnered with the National Park Service to conduct a star party at Cades Cove the evening of September 24th. The result was 851 enthusiastic visitors treated to views of the heavens in numerous telescopes and binoculars provided by SMAS members. The conditions were near perfect.
